I am the kid reporter who did this interview!!!!!! I do reviews for The San Diego Union Tribune so I was able to get press passes from them to do the interview.
this was probably the most nervous, exciting and amazing moment of my life!!!

INTERVIEW WITH ARCHIE:

One of the things I admired about your run in the competition was how you seemed to commit yourself emotionally to every single word you were singing in each song. How did you get into the zone before each performance?
Answer: How I got into the zone…I guess I just tried to remind myself about what I like about music when I listen to it. I'd ask myself about the songs that really hit me and made me feel something, what about that song made me feel the way I did and like how did it make me feel the way I did. When I sing it's the same feeling so it's cool when people feel the same thing I’m feeling when I'm singing. I think that's really cool. I guess it really depends on what the song talks about too.

Did you ever get tired of older women trying to pinch your cheeks or treat you like a little kid even though your 17?
I guess it's kinda weird since I am 17 and I don't think they do that to other 17 year olds. I don’t think it happens too many times. It happens like once every blue moon really. It's not too often.
I actually saw you on this TV guide List of Cutest kids and ironically all the other people were babies.
(laughs) That's weird. I don't know why...I think for kids younger than me, people wouldn't treat them that way. I guess I don't seem like a teen though.

You seem like a very innocent person. Have you ever done anything rebellious?
I don't do stuff that's illegal. I don't believe in that (laughs). I'm afraid of getting in trouble with the law and getting a bad reputation. I always want to keep a good reputation.

I absolutely loved your rendition of "Apologize"”with One Republic. Is there any chance of future collaborations with you and the band?
Answer: I think Cook actually is working with them which is cool. I don’t know…I think he sent a song for me to listen to for my album. I do like their style though... I haven't really put much thought into it.

What would be your Dream theme night?
I think a song from someone who's inspired you.
So who's inspired you?
I have a lot of people that have inspired me, like Eva Cassidy. She's amazing. If you want to learn why music touches people, listen to her. She's so genuine and so humble about her singing and you can tell she loves it. And just the passion in her is so cool. I just love her.

Worst nightmare theme night?
I don't know. I kind am up for anything and I like to try new things…. But maybe rap. I'd look like an idiot doing that.

What was the best part about being young in the competition?
I guess sometimes I'd have to leave because they can only keep minors for so many hours. I had a tutor to talk to, so in school, I made friends with my tutor!

Would you recommend that other young people try out?
Yeah! If you're really passionate about it and you feel ready, than go! I don't think it's really about age. It's more about if you're mature enough for it, if you really want to, and if you're ready for the work that's put into it. You can be any age and be ready and any age and not be ready.

What was the worst part about being young in the competition?
Probably the extra hours of school, when it (the schedule) got crazy. I was trying to fit school in at 8:00 at night or like on weekends or in the middle of my free time. The only free time we (the contestants) got, I had to do school. I was up for it though. I was amazed that I was actually able to pull it (the schedule) off. I had no idea I could do that.

Are you going to finish High School?
I’d like to. I'm still going to try, but who knows what the schedule's going to be like.

What other cities are you looking forward to touring at besides San Diego obviously?
(laughs) I'm really excited for my home (Murray, Utah). Everyone is just so nice there and happy. Everyone's just so friendly and there's no one I have any issues with.

Have you had any crazy fan encounter?
There have been a few crazy ones. There are people that like jump on you, people that grab your clothes and don’t let go. A lot of people do that which is weird. One girl was like “"can I have your jacket? Can I have your jacket?!?!?!?!?!". "uuuh no"”and she's like "cmon I'll trade you!!!". (nervously laughs) That was kinda weird.

Have you received any cool fan gifts?
I've gotten cookies and flowers and NutterButters,lots of Reeses. Also, these Japanese doll things where you color in one eye when you have a goal and color in another eye when you complete that goal. A lot of stuff.... (Regarding fan mail) It's been so crazy though trying to read the mail. I got to a point when I just couldn't read it anymore. I was soooo busy.
Well at least you were replying back to the fans. That means a lot to them.
I was trying soooo hard. There was a point when I was just so busy, I couldn't do it. While I was at school, I had Wendy (his tutor) read them for me but then there was a point when she couldn't do it anymore. I just got so overwhelmed…but I still read them now and then and try to respond to as many as I can.
